A very personal pearl: “When She Cries” by the country rock band Restless Heart. A formation, which was compared with the Eagles again and again with polyphonic singing and cuddly harmonies and had its great time in the 90s.

But also: a band with first-class musicians. I became acquainted with Restless Heart and that track in 1991, maybe it was 1992, at least in the early 90s in a cheap hotel in San Antonio around 3.30 in the morning. At this time of the day I had to get out of my wits to catch the Amtrak leaving for San Francisco at 5:00 a.m.. Travelling by train in America is of course much more complicated and expensive than flying, but I didn’t want to fly over Texas, New Mexico, California, but to drive through the middle. The radio alarm clock did its job reliably, at 3.30 o’clock in the morning the sounds of “When She Cries” crackled from the shabby loudspeaker. Despite the poor quality, I was taken with the harmonies of this wistful country pop pearl – and they made me hum the chorus while I showered and packed my suitcase. Sure: The picture of a woman told here is outdated, the sounds partly as well. But I still think the melody is beautiful for travelling …
